FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – New Haven, CT
Greater New Haven area authors will have a new home to share their work with the general public starting this April. The first of a bi-monthly event called Local Lit @ Lotta will occur Tuesday, April 3rd from 7pm -9pm in Westville.
Local Lit organizers Rebekah Fraser and Erin Townsend are seeking submissions from local authors for the first event. “We welcome both published and unpublished short fiction, creative nonfiction, and memoir. Works should be between 2,500 and 5,000 words. We prefer to hear from authors who feel comfortable reading for a general audience. However, it’s not a deal-breaker. As long as the author is willing to let one of the organizers read their piece, that’s fine,” said Fraser, a local author herself.
Each event will feature the work of two or three authors, and will include a brief “talk-back” period where a moderator will guide the audience in discussing the story. While audience members are not required to participate in the discussion, Fraser sees this as an opportunity for the general public and a benefit to authors, who sometimes write “in a vacuum” with little or no feedback from people outside their social sphere. “My intention is for Local Lit to become a community-building event for New Haven area writers, where we can connect with other writers and people who enjoy lit.”
